I went to see the movie yesterday and he's right. I don't know if I ever thought of Foster as anything other than a cute tomboy. Certainly in her Disney days she was ... well a cute tomboy. She of course made a seamless transition to a well regarded, award winning adult actress. But even so, I think I always viewed her as being a strong character who was nice to look at, but never sexy or overly feminine.
Well, Inside Man changed my mind. She's really cute, feminine and sexy in a powerful sort of way. Spike Lee (who directed) has done an outstanding job of giving each of the leads enough screen-time that any one of them could have dominated the film. But his talent at directing (with the exception of some trademark "gimmicks") has allowed a very interesting, taut crazy and cool film.
Clive Owen, many people's choice for James Bond, has a wonderful charisma that shines through sunglasses and a mask that he wears for most of the film, Washington is terrific in just about anything he does, and this time is no different. And as mentioned before, Foster is sexy.
Casting Director Kim Coleman has done a fantastic job of assembling a supporting cast that shines throughout. Even minor characters give worthy performances which makes the film even more fun to watch.
Coleman has a great eye for talent and looks as each character seamless intermingles with the leads. Never do you feel that anyone in the film isn't anything other than they're supposed to be. That is to say, a lower lever actor sharing screentime with a star. Instead Kim Coleman has found superb talent that shines at every level.
If you want to watch a good film was terrific performances, then take a shot at this. It's well worth the money.
