I spent the next couple of days really thinking about the movie, the intimacy, the love story, the bad guy, the good guy, and, of course, Superman. I just couldn't get it out of my head.
My discussions with people who have seen the movie have been surprisingly predictable. Most everyone I've spoken to really enjoyed the movie. But something interesting came about while discussing the movie. And I think my friend Eddie put it best when he said he enjoyed the movie a great deal on one level, but was a little disapointed on another.
He loved the nostalgia he felt when watching the movie, the thoughts that ran through his mind of when he saw the first Superman when he was a kid. But a part of him was a little disapointed that it wasn't a new retelling of the Superman saga. He was hoping for a Batman Begins type of story.
And that's when it occurred to me. Those who had read the comic books seemed to like the movie a little less than those of us who didn't. And Eddie has read his share of comic books -- he's the biggest Superman fan I know.
In anycase, most people have enjoyed it, and it's certainly far from a perfect movie, but it's a lot better than I think most of us thought it would be.
